In New York City, in the summer of 1995, when Jeru the Damaja failed to show up for an interview, a young Jay-Z, along with Jaz-O, and Malachi of Group Home filled in and were interviewed instead. This was 1995 at Payday Records, at a time when every other record label had already passed on signing a then unknown Jay-Z. At the time of this interview Jay-Z had just released the single “In My Lifetime” with the B-Side “I Can’t Get With That” on Payday Records. (Courtesy of Rap Basement).

Jay-Z’s old stuff was the best, and this is the oldest it gets. This has unbelivable flow for a freestlye. He stumbles a little but who wouldn’t. Also, it came off of a radio station so it has that “In the Moment” feel. Enjoy.
